Ylang Ylang
While looking for a place to stay in Montezuma, we were having a hard time finding a place that suited our needs (read: not a hostel). The options in Montezuma are very limited as it is still a “hidden gem” in my opinion. We decided to push our budget a little bit and book a room at the Ylang Ylang Beach Resort, since it was our only non-hostel option.
The resort is located right on the beach with no road access, so we had to park our car in town at their sister property and ride in a Land Rover on the beach to get to the resort. This was Andrew’s dream come true, because he loves Land Rovers! The resort was impeccably landscaped. The pathways were through lush tropical gardens, and if you looked up chances are you would see a howler monkey staring down at you from above. At almost any point you could look out through the palm trees and see the huge waves crashing on the rocks.
We stayed in one of the rooms in the beach house, which was more than enough room for us. It had three queen sized beds, a huge bathroom, and a patio. The upstairs loft had a bed with amazing views.
The room prices include breakfast and dinner, both which were amazing!
On Saturday I had one of my most favorite days so far here in Costa Rica. We got up early for the included breakfast, and I had their delicious banana pancakes with fruit! so so so good. Then I went to yoga right on the resort. It was one of the best yoga classes I have ever had — maybe it had something to do with staring out into the beautiful ocean and relaxing to the sound of waves crashing — but whatever it was it really helped me enjoy the class! While I was in yoga, Andrew was doing one of his favorite things – fishing. :)
After we finished our activities we headed into town to hike to the Montezuma waterfalls. It was more like rock climb, but regardless we made it to a beautiful waterfall and hopped in to cool off!
We ended the day with some hammock relaxing, poolside happy hour drinks and cooling off in the pool, and then a sunset walk on the beach! Ahhh does this not sound like the most perfect day to you?!
PS– have I mentioned how beautiful the bougainvilleas are in Costa Rica right now? They are everywhere, and so insanely gorgeous!
